Taking as a starting point a set of reviews of dance shows, performances or exhibitions, written by Florian Gaité between 2015 and 2020, this book focuses on the exhaustion of bodies, studied through different representations of exhaustion and fatigue. He simultaneously proposes observing the forms that this abatement can take once transposed into choreography and reflects on what current neoliberal societies are doing to bodies. Posed in relation to an analysis of modernity as an ever stronger injunction to live intensely, this book responds to the need to understand how contemporary dance – alongside other comparable forms, notably performance – translates the enthusiasm of our rhythms of life while constituting a means of resisting it. The book consists of essays and reviews of shows (notably by Jan Martens, La Ribot, Jérôme Bel, Noé Soulier) and performances (Émilie Pitoiset, Julien Prévieux, Davide Balula).
