In 2004 Norbert Schöbel had the idea to walk from his adpotive home, Brussels, to his native city, Munich. But in fact he and his partner Thorsten Baensch ended up continuing from Munich to Prague, to Berlin, and Hamburg, and returning to Brussels. A walk of more than 3,000 kilometres, in a closed circle across Central Europe in 155 stages, over a period of twelve years and seven months. This large sized book is the report of their quest. The reader is taken on a journey through ordinary, yet oddly fascinating places, while discovering various leitmotifs in the man-made landscape.
The special edition is hand-bound, with a rounded leather spine and a cover perforated 6 times on each side, allowing the original hiking maps to be seen through the perforations. The book cover is removable. The precision-crafted headband cuts through the multicoloured print marks, creating a colour effect of rare beauty. The edition is accompanied by various original prints (ephemera) and extracts from hiking maps with hand-drawn itineraries. The book is presented in a high-quality, labelled archival box.
