Viaggio in Italia

In the early 1980s, Luigi Ghirri gathered around him a group of some twenty photographers who were already experimenting with unconventional ways of representing reality and the social changes that had been taking place throughout the country since the end of the previous decade. The comparison gave rise to the group show Viaggio in Italia, inaugurated on January 15, 1984 at the Galerie provinciale d’art in Bari, and presented again in Genoa, Ancona, Rome, Naples and Reggio Emilia. The exhibition was accompanied by a volume of the same name, conceived by Ghirri and Paola Borgonzoni, with an essay by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle and an essay by Gianni Celati.
