Utopia Ending

Gianluca Calise specialises in long-term documentary photography projects. His research focuses on social issues and themes related to identity, belonging, and memory.
His book Utopia Ending, with photographs taken in the period 2014–2019, looks at the urban transformation of London since the 2012 Olympics. Through images and text, including three interviews and an essay, he compares the city’s current finance-driven development with post-war expansion based on council houses. Investments in social housing have been almost entirely eradicated and now the new buildings are more financial assets for global investors rather than actual homes for Londoners.
