This retrospective book, accompanying the traveling exhibition at the Mapfre Foundation, offers the most comprehensive overview to date of the work of Stephen Shore, considered one of the most influential figures in contemporary photography. From his color projects Uncommon Places and American Surfaces in the 1970s, in which Shore shook up conventions with his practice of the snapshot, to other more recent, sometimes unpublished series, this book highlights the photographer’s approach, which never ceases to question the medium itself while erasing its imprint as far as possible.
A long interview between the artist and David Campany and several critical texts, including one by Marta Dahó, curator of the Mapfre Foundation exhibition, highlight the links between these different series and Stephen Shore’s conceptual approach. A detailed chronology and selective bibliography by Carlos Martín García accompany the texts.
