Erwin Wurm Photographs is published on the occasion of the first retrospective devoted by the Maison Européenne de la Photographie to the photographic practice of internationally renowned artist Erwin Wurm. Bringing together some 280 photographs taken since the late 1980s, this comprehensive publication features original contact sheets and prints from the artist’s personal archives, which have never been released to the public. The book explores the artistic process by which the Austrian artist produced major works such as “Dust Sculptures”, “Fabio Getting Dressed” or even the famous “One-Minute Sculptures” and also unveils recent large-format Polaroids. Unique in its conception, this monograph highlights the special role played by the photographic medium in Wurm’s work: much more than a means of immortalizing his performances, photography is for him a form of “sculptural” expression apart and whole. Erwin Wurm was born in 1954, in Austria. He lives and works between Vienna and Limberg.
