Questioning the meaning of architecture means trying to establish a principle of global and timeless legitimization, not just referring to the past or the present. Modern architecture, despite the fact that it presents itself in a fragmentary condition, aspires, for this very reason, to a lost totality.
In this text, written from the point of view of an architect and not that of a critic or historian, the aim is to verify how modern architectural narratives, though fragmentary, still refer to an Order that continues to serve as a reference. In so doing, it attempts to explain why architecture continues to have its own identity through time, and why it continues to be so necessary.
