The indigenous peoples of South America experienced a form of end of the world in the 16th century after the invasion of their lands by the Europeans. In this little book, Ailton Krenak, a prominent figure in Brazil’s indigenous struggles, asks how this heritage could not provide a knowledgeable look at the consequences of the new climate regime of the Anthropocene. This speech, a true inverted anthropology, is situated in the place of a reversal of perspectives: with the mutation in progress of the conditions of the maintenance of life on Earth, would it not be humanity organized on the foundations of modernity that it would be more to fear that it is deprived of the required faculties of adaptation? All things considered, would it not rather be the indigenous peoples, through their ancestral strategies of resistance, who could indicate a path likely to delay the advance of “the desert and the devastation” engendered by techno-capitalist overdevelopment?
