To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso, the Paris museum dedicated to the painter has invited Sophie Calle to take over the Hôtel Salé. As part of this exhibition, Sophie Calle chose to present the “estate” of her possessions. The Drouot auction house lent itself to the game, drawing up 482 lots from among the artist’s personal possessions: from her furniture to her crockery, from her cuddly toys to her collection of works of art, all published in a catalogue as is customary at an auction. To complete this artistic gesture, the artist has devised an Erratum to the Hôtel Drouot catalogue: identical in format, this erratum reveals other keys to reading the catalogue. Sophie Calle has chosen more than 100 items from among her possessions, revealing their hidden histories. Objects offered or exchanged with other artists, collected during her travels or received as an inheritance: as these stories unfold, another story emerges, recounting moments of private life, amorous or artistic encounters, and sometimes secrets.
