Duologues

German-born New York photographer Nina Welch-Kling is one of the new voices in women’s street photography. With her latest Duologues, Welch-Kling adds an artistic aspect to the genre: by combining two photographs in the form of fixed diptychs, she creates a visual dialogue between two images that opens up new dimensions to the viewer. Photographs taken in the blink of an eye unfold through their association: a wealth of links, meanings and aesthetic relationships.
For the first time, these unique compositions can be admired within the quiet pages of a book. As Jim Casper, founder of Lens Culture, observes: “These diptychs produce visual echoes that evoke new ideas, new meanings, new connections – encouraging viewers to energise their own ways of seeing things.”
