Apples & Pears

Apples & Pears is a tribute to Hermann Frass, a South Tyrolean photographer and journalist. In 1968, Frass published Mele e Pere, a book containing pictures of apples and pears purposed for liquor production. Over many years, I have been fascinated by the capacity of Frass’ images to celebrate the monumental beauty of the fruits, enhanced by a striking choice of backgrounds. It was great to come across some of the original photographs that Frass took for his project in the archives of foto forum in Bolzano, Italy.
