delpire & co is honoured to invite the FLEE collective to the launch of their sixth edition, Athos: Echoes from the Holy Mountain.
The aim of this edition is to present the living heritage of Mount Athos, a peninsula in north-eastern Greece that has been at the heart of Eastern Orthodox monasticism for over a thousand years. There, isolated from conventional time and world events, live around 2,000 monks, devoted to prayer and worship. Resonating across the Aegean Sea, their sacred songs have been heard only by visiting pilgrims.
Through a sound and digital compilation and a book, published in English, Greek and French, contemporary artists and researchers have been able to revisit and discuss the contemporary implications of this fascinating yet little-known territory.
Founded by Olivier Duport, Alan Marzo and Carl Åhnebrink, FLEE is an independent publishing house, record label and curatorial platform dedicated to the documentation and artistic reinterpretation of hybrid cultural phenomena. Defending a transdisciplinary practice, the platform explores and creatively highlights the contours of globalization from a historical and critical perspective. Oscillating between different subjects and disciplines, from music to architecture, the collective pursues an inclusive working method, privileging diverse and varied points of view.
