Dolorès Marat
A self-taught photographer, Dolorès Marat began her career as an apprentice with Claude Froissard, a local photographer, before being hired as a laboratory assistant and photographer at Votre Beauté magazine. She began her own work at the age of almost 40. Her discovery of the Fresson process in 1983 gave a decisive direction to her work as an author. The four-color charcoal print supports her tireless exploration of textures and moods. She now uses the Fine Art print on Japan paper produced by Sunghee Lee at the SHL workshop in Arles. Her work has been regularly published in the press (Le Monde Diplomatique, Libération, Les Inrockuptibles, etc.). She has published numerous monographs, most of which are out of print: Lune rouge et autres animaux familiers, Fario, 2021; Illusion, Filigrane, 2003; New York USA, Marval, 2002. Her work is regularly exhibited, and was presented at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2023. The exhibition Dolorès Marat at the Fondation Sozzani in November 2024, organized by the Fonds de dotation Neuf Cinq – Robert Delpire & Sarah Moon in collaboration with the MEP, is the first to be devoted to her by a Parisian institution.
