NATURE is both a documentary and a fable. A surrealistic tale, rooted in the utopian landscape of the Parc de La Courneuve, one of Europe’s largest artificial green spaces, yet enclosed in a concrete forest. Formerly marshland, former agricultural land, former shantytown, this purpose-built territory imposes its opulence on the raw, dry Parisian periphery that surrounds it. Vast plains, belvederes, mountains and pyramids: everything is done to re-appropriate a perspective free of the bars that streak the viewer’s gaze just a few steps away, and which here can only be discerned from above, rendered tiny by the strength of the mineral vantage points. This gives rise to a strange impression when you enter, feeling both the hand of man and the sense of nature.
