Some time ago, Françoise Huguier found a folder containing a bundle of letters exchanged between her mother, father and grandfather.

Letters written by her parents, Mathieu and Antoinette, young lovers, just engaged and dreaming of getting married.

Letters between Armand Châtellier, Antoinette’s father, representative of a noble family from Pont-Labbé, who was opposed to the marriage, and his daughter or future son-in-law, who would leave to try his luck in Cochinchina (now Vietnam).

These letters speak of the relationships between men and women, between a noble society and a more popular one, and between different generations.
Letters that show that all of today’s issues existed a century ago, and even more openly than today.

In the end, the young lovers marry. The mother’s family will not attend the wedding, and will have a haystack delivered to the newlyweds as a gift…
