Ernest Pignon-Ernest was born in Nice in 1942. Since 1966, he has made the street the very place of ephemeral art that exalts its memory, events and myths. He thus foreshadowed a number of artistic experiments soliciting outdoor space, he is considered as the precursor of what is called street-art today.

In museums and galleries he exhibits his approach: preparatory drawings and photos (Museum of Modern Art, Paris, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, MAMAC Nice, Neue Pinakothek Munich, Palais des Beaux-Arts Beijing, Venice Biennale, Palais des Papes Avignon, etc.)
