Produced by artist and photographer Aurélie Pétrel in collaboration with Charlotte Schaer, this book is a visual attempt to index photographic images.
The photographic practice of Aurélie Pétrel (born in Lyon in 1980) questions the status of the image, its use and the mechanisms of its production. Anchored in the long term, her research aims to bring the photographic image back to the centre of multi-sensory reflection, using spatial devices to combine a visual and conceptual approach in a programmatic series of situational settings.
Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, she has been teaching as an artist and in charge of the Photography Pool at HEAD – Haute École d’art et de design de Genève since 2012 and co-directing the Experimental Laboratory at CIPGP – Collège International de Photographie du grand Paris since 2018.
Charlotte Schaer (b. 1991) is a Swiss artist based in Geneva. Through sculpture, installation and publishing, she develops a practice in which space is conceived as a system. She uses the places she invades and the objects she designs as data. Her exhibitions are part of an approach aimed at creating a logical process, the combinations of which induce a serial aesthetic.
