Bettina Rheims (born 1952) is a fashion and portrait photographer who has been developing a multi-faceted body of work for over forty years.
From her first photographs of strippers in Pigalle (1981) to Modern Lovers (1990) and Les Détenues (2014), she has questioned the feminine and gender.
From the 1990s onwards, she published several projects in collaboration with the novelist Serge Bramly, including Chambre Close (1992), I.N.R.I. (1998) and Rose, c’est Paris (2010). In 1995, she produced the official portrait of President Jacques Chirac, who awarded her the Insignes d’Officier de la Légion d’Honneur for her body of work in 2007. She was promoted to Commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur in 2013.
