This anthology gathers and presents a collection of 29 texts published between the early 1960s and the present day on appropriate technologies and low-tech, most of them unpublished in French or no longer available. It shows that there is a profound continuity between research into alternative technologies and direct applications of solar energy after the first oil shock, and current concerns about energy autonomy and self-sufficiency. The anthology is divided into four parts, dealing respectively with appropriate technologies and their history, low-tech design methods, direct applications of solar energy and alternative techniques for capturing and saving water in a context of growing drought. It is aimed at all those interested in low-tech and alternative energies, be they engineers, historians, economists, designers, DIY enthusiasts or the simply curious.
