As part of Paris Design Week, delpire & co is pleased to invite you to the ATRILES Y LIBROS exhibition by ceramist Apparatu. To mark the occasion, the bookshop is presenting a selection of books on form and its function.
The practice of Xavier Mañosa and Apparatu is characterized by a consistent, formal language. The “objects” must function on a technical level and in an evolutionary perspective, always demonstrating that they go beyond their simple condition as “ceramics”. Thanks to this approach, Xavier succeeds in pushing back the boundaries of ceramics, showing what it is, but above all what it is capable of becoming. This seemingly implacable approach is in fact fundamentally conceptual. By moving away from the traditional, decorative dimension of ceramics, the artist creates more imposing forms and produces objects such as benches or pedestals that can also have the status of sculpture. Indeed, Xavier’s ceramics—if intended for a specific use—can be considered as architectural, sculptural or design elements.
This plurality of operations characterizes his practice and prevents him from being categorized. Above all, it’s what you see—and that’s ceramics.
