Les Cambuses

Les Cambuses is Sylvie Auvray’s first book, somewhere between an artist’s edition and a monograph. Bringing together some one hundred of her works, from her earliest paintings to her ceramics, as well as some of her jewelry and her most recent works, this book allows us to grasp the richness and singularity of a universe.

“Ceramist, painter, sculptor—of jewelry, bugs, charms and broomsticks—” Sylvie Auvray sees her work as an open corpus. A perusal of her body of work reveals a dilution of the boundaries between the different media she employs, as if each were responding to the others in an energetic discussion. The authors, chosen for their different registers, also engage in a dialogue: Anne Dressen, curator at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Franck Gautherot, director of Le Consortium, and Sarah Holveck, artist and co-director of Pauline Perplexe. Together, they offer us a broader vision of what characterizes her artistic research: a perpetual movement, an openness to the world that works in such a way that everything converges towards the construction of a work of art.
