For a long decade, between the 1970s and 1980s, Bronx-born photographer Alvin Baltrop documented the alternative world populating this once ramshackle corner of the city, capturing cruisers, sunbathers, fornicators, and friends in that brief epoch following the Stonewall riots and preceding the explosion of the AIDS epidemic. The book features these and other photographs by Baltrop, many of which have never been shown publicly, and is published in conjunction with the late artist’s first-ever retrospective at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
