Working on the magazine NEUF, I understood that my path in life was in publishing and not in surgery. Anyone can make a mistake.
Robert Delpire *
1950
Robert Delpire is 24 years old. A medical student, he created in Paris the review NEUF, distributed by the Maison de la Médecine. It’s the beginning of a unique editorial adventure that will last 3 years and… 9 issues, and which will lead to the creation of Delpire Éditeur in 1953.
In post-war Saint-Germain, he made of this periodical an avant-garde artistic review. With NEUF, Delpire initiates collaborations and friendships that will accompany him throughout his career : Brassaï, Édouard Boubat, André Breton, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Blaise Cendrars, Jean Cocteau, Robert Doisneau, Paul Facchetti, André François, Robert Frank, Izis, Fernand Léger, Pierre Mac Orlan, Henri Michaux, Henry Miller, Mose, Michel Ragon, George Rodger, Willy Ronis, Jean-Paul Sartre, Savignac, Paul-Émile Victor…

delpire & co presents at the Rencontres d’Arles the exhibition NEUF from A to Z, and publishes the 9 issues of the journal in a limited edition, in a box set.
The Box Set
NEUF is an avant-garde magazine that embodies all the artistic and intellectual excitement of the 1950s, giving a central place to photography and its authors. No public collection has all the issues of the review. The largest known ensemble, kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, remains incomplete. The publication of these facsimiles, 70 years after their first appearance, finally makes all of NEUF accessible to enthusiasts and the general public.
This box set brings together the 9 issues and the special publication of the art critic Michel Ragon, Expression and Non-Figuration (1951). An essay by photography historian, Michel Frizot, dedicated to this foundational adventure of French photographic publishing, completes this reissue.
