5:30 pm, at the bookshop
delpire & co welcomes Philippe Chancel, for the presentation and signing of his book Rebels, une jeunesse de France, published by The Jokers Films.
In the early 1980s, France was going through a turbulent period, with the rise of both unemployment and the National Front and the intensification of violence against immigrants. Philippe Chancel paints a portrait of a youth of mixed race, dynamic and daring.
In Paris, “the quadrilateral Nation, République, Grands Boulevards, Gare de l’Est, marks their territory. Like them, I am just 20 years old. Blacks, Whites, Beurs, pretty and broken faces face each other. The story is one of trouble, with a background of sex, drugs, Rockab’n’roll and glamour; where you can meet the Stray Cats until late at the “Grand Boulevards” parties in Albert. It is this raw energy that I tried to capture with my camera, charged with a Kodak Tri-X boosted by my flash. Even if sometimes I acted with cunning and surprise, I always expressed truth and sincerity through my pictures…”

7 pm, at the Silencio des Prés
The signing at the bookshop will be followed by a meeting between the artist and the director Jimmy Laporal-Trésor at the Silencio des Prés, and by the preview of his film Les Rascals, inspired by Chancel’s work.
The Rascals, a band of suburban youth, enjoy the carefree life of the 80s. At a record shop, one of them recognizes a skin who had attacked him and decides to take the law into his own hands. Witnessing the scene, the young sister of the skin gets close to an extremist student who promises to take revenge on the Rascals. As the extreme right-wing gains ground throughout the country, the band of friends is caught in a spiral. It is the end of innocence…
