Bilingual French-English book with about 300 photos of Lou Reed and a text by Bernard Comment, giving his point of view on the photographic work of the artist.
“These photos represent my adventure with light, starting in the 1960s with Andy Warhol and ending today. I started with photograms. I had a video camera rigged to get extreme contrasts like in Billy Name’s photos. I had twelve rows of TVs stacked on five levels, playing specially designed tapes. They looked like glaciers spinning and reinventing themselves as I played in front of them on stage. I cut my teeth with many cameras and all kinds of lenses in my quest for joy and beauty.”
Lou Reed delivers his photographs like a collection of poetry. “Rhymes of images” alternate landscapes, high magnification details and portraits and are linked together by “a visual thought.” In his preface, he sums up his thinking as follows: “Nothing looks like what it is once captured by the lens, for reality is thus enhanced for individual theater.”
