Baja Moda

Best known for his aerial photographs of Mexico City, in this new work Pablo Lopez Luz explores contemporary South American culture through the lens of its identity and resistance. The Mexican photographer began the Baja Moda series during a previous project on the influence of pre-Hispanic culture on the contemporary urban landscape in Latin America, focusing on the storefronts of clothing and shoe stores that remain unchanged by the changes brought about by the trends of modern globalized culture. Accompanied by a text in English and Spanish by David Campany, the images show a certain opposition to economic transitions towards foreign production in favor of local exchange. Published by Editorial RM, this book explores how cultural identity may or may not be influenced in the consumerist era.
